| The Difficult Patient in Group: Blendig the mayor psychoanalitic perspectives
Howard D. Kibel (The following is a modification of a chapter that is to appear in the forthcoming textbook: Praxis der Gruppenpsychotherapie, Tschuschke, Volker. (ed.), Stuttgart: Georg Thieme Verlag,)
Introduction
The term "difficult patient" was coined nearly 25 years ago by Malcolm Pines (1975). He described a group of patients who were ordinarily not treated in groups at that time. These patients were characteristically self-centered and preoccupied with their own painful existence to the exclusion of others.
